Dr Selina Chua obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1982 from the National University of Singapore, Master of Medicine (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) in 1988, and PhD in 1999. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists (United Kingdom) and
a Fellow of the Academy of Singapore, Singapore.

After rotating through the obstetric, reproductive medicine and oncology divisions in the Senior Residency programme at the National University Hospital, she was awarded a fellowship in 1990 to spend a year as clinical research fellow at the University of Oxford. During this time, she was in Professor Christopher Redman’s High Risk Obstetric Unit in the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the John Radcliffe Hospital and was involved in specialist antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care of women with complicated pregnancies. Upon returning to Singapore, she joined the National University of Singapore as a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

While teaching and conducting research in the university, she was also on the teaching faculty for many obstetric programmes and symposiums in Singapore. During her time at the National University Hospital, she was in charge of the Labour Ward and Diabetic Clinic, as well as the Medical Disorders and High Risk Clinics. Since establishing her private practice, she has served on various professional committees.

Dr Selina Chua has published extensively in prestigious international journals such as The Lancet (UK), British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Obstetrics & Gynecology (USA), European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Asia Oceania Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Japan). In addition to her international publications she has co-authored several chapters in obstetrics and gynaecology text books, and has contributed many papers to regional and local journals. She was awarded the 18th Benjamin Henry Sheares Memorial Lecture by The Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Singapore in 2000.

She has been in private practice at Mt Elizabeth since 1998, and has established an extensive general obstetric and gynaecological practice. Her expertise in prenantal screening and diagnosis including first trimester screening, antenatal care as well as care during normal as well as difficult labour and delivery, has helped many mothers over many years. Dr Selina Chua provides prenatal counselling as well as contraceptive advice and services. She has wide experience treating women with gynaecological problems including abnormal Pap smears and cervical abnormalities, abnormal bleeding, pelvic tumours including uterine fibroids and cysts, as well as problems in the menopause.
